Our History

The Midlands Minorities in Sports Organization was founded with a simple but powerful belief: that every young person deserves the chance to excel, both in athletics and in life. Recognizing the lack of opportunities and representation for minority athletes in many sports, a group of committed community leaders, parents, and coaches came together to create a nonprofit that would serve as the parent organization for youth leagues, teams, and events across the Midlands.

Since its founding, MMISO has grown into more than just an organizer of teams and games—it has become a movement dedicated to breaking barriers. From hosting competitive leagues and developing travel teams, to offering mentorship, academic support, and leadership training, MMISO provides pathways that extend far beyond the playing field.

Every program we lead is rooted in the belief that sports are not only a tool for competition, but also for building character, perseverance, and opportunity. By nurturing both athletic talent and personal growth, MMISO works to inspire a new generation of leaders who uplift their communities and redefine what is possible through the power of sports.

We envision a future where young people of color and young women thrive in every arena—on and off the field. MMISO is committed to developing character, perseverance, and athletic excellence by creating pathways to success in sports. Through mentorship, training, and opportunity, we aim to inspire a generation of leaders who break barriers, uplift communities, and redefine what is possible through the power of sports.
